Congratulations to the sixth-grade Battle of the Books team members: Vanessa Dukowitz, Sarah Rector and Ashley Smith for winning their practice battle with West Homer Elementary this week.

Family Night will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Students must be accompanied by an adult guardian to participate. Hot dogs, chips, cookies and beverages will be available for $1 until 6 p.m. Activities will include a hoop shoot, art center, bingo and rock climbing. There will be a drawing for door prizes at the end of the evening.

The Mountain View-Kenai Middle talent show will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium at Kenai Central High School.

The cross-country ski team did an excellent job at the Nikiski Middle School Classic last weekend. In the seventh-grade girls' division, Holly Perkins placed seventh with a time of 15:18, and Catherine Hoisington place eighth with a time of 18:27. In the eighth-grade girls' division, Jamie Dunn placed third at 13:42, Kiley Hansen placed fifth at 17:06, Rebecca Gilman was sixth with 19:51, and Adrianna Garcia was seventh at 24:22. In the boys' eighth-grade division, Trent Semmens was second at 9:31, Reed Ehrhardt placed third at 10:12, Quinn Stoops was eighth with 11:34, Kris Larson was 10th with 12:30, and Daniel Gustkey placed 11th at 12:33. In the open race, Anders Nyquist placed second at 11:16, Nikita Naumoff was seventh at 14:20, and Brady Perkins placed ninth at 14:51.

Feb. 12 Volleyball at Soldotna Middle at 3 p.m.

Feb. 13 and 16 Parent-teacher conferences.

Feb. 17-19 Terra Nova and Benchmark testing.
