Posted: Wednesday, February 04, 2004

Colten Jensen has been selected as the SMS Soldotna Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month.

SMS wrestling is going strong. Participants will compete every weekend until the end of February. Come out and support the team.

Make sure to check out the Community Schools brochure for a class about homework management for parents. This class will be facilitated by two teachers from SMS, Mrs. Shirley and Ms. Heite.

Larsen Kohler placed second in the Soldotna region contest of the Elks Hoop Shoot.

This is School Counselor Week.

The Fort Nightly this Friday will be hosted by the PTA. There will be special activities and parents are encouraged to help chaperone and have fun.

SMS would like to host a pie auction if there's interest. Call the office and let them know if it sounds like fun.

The Benchmark tests for eighth-grade students and the Terra Nova tests for seventh-grade students will be given Feb. 17 to 19. Parents are encouraged to make sure their children get to school on time each of these days and have lots of sleep and a good breakfast.

The next PTSA meeting will be at 5 p.m. Feb. 19. Following the meeting, there will be a showing of the video, "Developing Healthy Self Esteem," by H. Stephen H. Glenn.

Parent-teacher conferences will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 12, from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 13, and from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 16.

Larson Kohler was the winner of the school spelling bee. Larsen will represent SMS in Anchorage at the statewide contest.
