Peninsula, Arctic Winter Games

On Jan. 19, 64 elementary/ middle school students participated in the Peninsula Winter Games soccer tournament sponsored by the Soldotna Police Department's Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program. The results are:

* First place, Wolverines Christianna Garcia, Kristen Nagle, Phoebe Napolitano, Allison Ostrander, Taylor Ostrander, Dalton Pearson and Kylee Woodford. Jackie Garcia, coach.

* Second place, Renegades Jenna Calhoun, Krystal Hammon, Makenzi Magiera, Katherine O'Reilly, Sarah Rawson, Ericka Reynolds, Cassie Ross and Kelsey Williams. Laura Ross, coach.

* Third place, Roadrunners Addy Beller, Camryn Boulette, Jakob Kooly, Delaney Love, Logan Paul, Daniel Rosin, Kylie Wolfe and Miranda Wolfe. Jimmy Love, coach.

* The Sportsmanship Award was given to the Sterling Stampede Jesse Book, Carol Clonan, Katie Clonan, Ben Ikerd, John Shirley, Benjamin Sibley, Bud Sparks and Chelshe Winter. Connie Ferguson and Mike Sibley, coaches.

AWG basketball players announced

The following local athletes have been chosen to represent Team Alaska for basketball at the 2008 Arctic Winter Games in Yellowknife Northwest Territories in Canada in March: Jessie Duke from Soldotna High School and Kailee Skjold from Ninilchik School and Albert White from Cook Inlet Academy.

The boys head coach will be Mike Adams from Cordova and the girls head coach will be Wendy Mutz from Fairbanks.
