The Kenai Peninsula had a total of six skiers qualify for the Junior Olympics Sunday at Birch Hill in Fairbanks in the final Junior Olympic Qualifying Series race of the year.

Skiers Amy Lambe of Skyview, Ida Martin of Homer, Andy Liebner of Soldotna, Jacob Fellman of Skyview, Adam Tressler of Skyview and Brent Knight of Soldotna will represent Alaska at the Junior Olympic National Championships March 5 through 10 in Marquette/Ishpeming, Mich.

Those six skiers earned their spots on the Alaska team by accumulating points through the six Junior Olympic Qualifying Series races. The last race was Sunday and the team was named afterward.

In the Sunday men's Junior 1/Older Junior race, for those born from 1981 to 1984, Liebner skated 10 kilometers in 29 minutes, 7.2 seconds to finish sixth and lead all peninsula finishers.

While Liebner had the team made before Sunday, the big performances in the men's J1/OJ race came from Knight and Tressler. Tressler was eighth in 29:38.4 and Knight was ninth in 29:40.7. Both needed solid performances to make the team. Fellman finished 10th in 29:43.6. Other peninsula finishers in the J1/OJ race were Soldotna's Daniel Harro in 22nd (31:37.2), Kenai's Greg Landua in 23rd (31:39.6), Nikiski's Zachary Hall in 25th (32:06.8), Homer's Andrew Peters in 26th (32:19.8), Soldotna's David Hernandez in 32nd (34:04.6), Skyview's Leon Galbraith in 33rd (34:13.1) and Kenai's Eric Nyce in 38th (35:37.4).

In the girls J1/OJ 10-kilometer freestyle race, Martin finished second in 34:30.1, about 25 seconds behind the winner. Lambe finished fourth in 34:39.3. The other peninsula finisher was Kenai's Mary Krusen, who was 24th in 42:28.3.

In the girls Junior 2 race, for those born from 1985 to 1986, Skyview's Stephanie Lambe skated to a fourth-place finish in the 5-kilometer race. There were no times available for that race.

In the boys 5-kilometer Junior 2 race, Kenai's Jordan Engel skated to an eighth-place finish. Engel finished in 15:28.2.
