Kasilof biathlete Jay Hakkinen, 21, placed 41st in the 12.5-kilometer pursuit at the World Championships Sunday in Pokljuka, Slovenia.
Hakkinen came into the race 31st after Saturday's 10-kilometer race and moved up to as high as 22nd place Sunday after he didn't miss any shots on the first loop. However, on the second loop Hakkinen missed four shots, each coming with a 150-meter penalty loop, and fell back into the forties. Hakkinen finished 4:49.6 behind winner Pavel Rostovtsev of Russia, who had a time of 34:21.3. Anchorage's Jeremy Teela finished 20th. Racing for the men at the World Championships will continue Wednesday.
