ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An Anchorage man was attacked and slashed so severely his scalp was exposed Monday night.

The 45-year-old man told police that he was leaving the VFW Post in Midtown Anchorage a little before 11:30 p.m. The man was attacked, beaten, and slashed on the forehead.

The man went back into the VFW Post and employees called an ambulance. He was taken to the Alaska Native Medical Center, where he was treated for the 3-inch cut.

The man told ambulance technicians that he had slipped on the ice and hit his head. When police questioned him, he told them that two men had attacked him. The man said he had no idea of the motivation for the attack.
