Darrel G. Ployhar of Lexington, Ore., died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in the home of Kent Ployhar and Jackie Robinson in Kennewick, Wash. He was 68.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Elks Club in Heppner, Ore. A service will be held in Soldotna at a later date.
Mr. Ployhar was born Aug. 7, 1934, in Geraldine, Mont., to Rosalie Nult and John Ployhar. He joined the U.S. Army on June 2, 1954. He served in the Dominican Republic and fought in the Vietnam War. He retired June 1, 1976. He received a bronze star with a "V "for valor.
In October 1958, he married Alice Peterson and they had four children. The couple divorced in August 1977.
He later married Ava Sue Grant in Kenai on Feb. 14, 1982. She died in October 1986.
Mr. Ployhar is survived by his sisters, Helen (Peg) Martin of Redmond, Ore., and Joan (Jo) Hudson of Heppner; brother, Jack Ployhar of Heppner; children, Susan Muskther and husband, Tim, Marti Delimont and husband, Steve, Jon Ployhar and wife, Becky, Kent Ployhar and Jackie Robinson; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to a hospice branch.
Arrangements were made by Columbia Memorial Funeral Chapel.
