Beekeepers abuzz with activity

Bee Keeper’s Educational Exchange on the Peninsula (BKEEP) will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Soldotna Middle School. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month. It is open to the public. For more information, call Rosy Thompson at 262-6084 or Steve Albers at 260-6121.

KPC Council to meet

Family activities offered

The Kenaitze Indian Head Start will host the following activities:

· A parenting class titled “Patch Work Families” on how to blend step families will be held Tuesday and Feb. 13. Norvell Robertson will lead the class. It is open to the public. For more information, class times or to register, call Mary at 283-0707.

· Head Start alumni activity will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 9 at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai. Former Head Start students and their families are invited to join current students. For more information, call Mary at 283-0707.

Community group meeting slated

The Sterling Community Coalition Group will hold elections at 7 p.m. Thursday in the library at Sterling Elementary School. Three directors positions are open. It is open to the public. For information, call Robert or Renae Wall at 260-6616 or visit www.sccgak.freespaces.com.

Annual wine tasting, auction to be held

Hospice of the Central Peninsula’s 11th annual Hospice Auction and Wine Tasting will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Gourmet appetizers and specialty wines will be served. A silent auction, live auction and variety of instant purchases are some of the planned activities. Movie night offered in Sterling

The Sterling Senior Center will have a free showing of “The Last of the Mohicans” promptly at 7 p.m. Feb. 16. Free popcorn and coffee will be served. Snack items and hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for purchase. For more information, call the center at 262-6808.

Reading carnival moves to SoHi

The fourth annual Peninsula Reading Carnival has been moved from Soldotna Middle School to Soldotna High School. The carnival will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 17. Proceeds will benefit literacy projects.

The purpose of the carnival is to encourage literacy in the community through involvement of families in literacy-rich activities. For more information, call Monica Heath at 776-5575, 283-5015 or e-mail her at mheath@kpbsd@k12.ak.us.

Bypass support group available

Gastric Bypass Support Group will meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at Central Peninsula Hospital in the Illiamna Room. The meeting is for both pre- and post-operative patients.
