Soldotna's girls get past Bartlett

Soldotna's girls notched a 49-42 win over Bartlett in the second round of the Dimond Lady Lynx Prep Shootout Maroon Tournament at Dimond High School on Thursday.

The Stars held a 20-17 lead at the half. SoHi added to that lead in the third quarter. They outscored the Golden Bears 17-13 in the period.

Karen Senette paced SoHi with 18 points. Shayna Everett had a team-high 13 points for Bartlett. Destiny Little followed with 12.

The Stars scored 27 points off of turnovers.

SoHi went 14-of-26 from the line. Bartlett made four of its nine free throws.

Seahawk Classic

The Seward girls defeated Nikiski 50-37 on Thursday in the opening round of the round-robin Seahawk Classic in Seward. Meg Berry and Chelsey Clarke had 12 points apiece for the Seahawks, while Makenzie Moore paced the Bulldogs with 13 points and Savannah Griffel added 10.

The Seward boys defeated Nikiski 61-52. Andrew Buchanan poured in 28 points for the Seahawks, while Ryan Sawyer had 15 points and Michael Thorn had 12 points. For Nikiski, Brando Wik had 19 points and Lucas Herrin added 14.

In other boys action, Bethel defeated Cook Inlet Adademy 54-49. It was a roller-coaster game, as Bethel led 20-5 after one quarter, 26-25 after two quarters and 43-29 after three quarters. Brodie Smith paced the Warriors with 19 points, while Jacob Grinestaff had 15, Matthew Moffis had 14 and David Reischach had 13 for CIA.

In other girls action, CIA knocked off Bethel 51-38. The Eagles won the game from the foul line, hitting 13-of-17 while Bethel was 1-of-2. Tiana McGahan had 22 points for the Eagles, while Tiffany Smith had 13 and Amie Smithwick added 11. For the Warriors, Audrey Leary and Kira Polk had 10 points apiece.

In tourney action today: CIA girls will play Seward at 6:30 p.m., CIA boys will play Seward at 8:15 p.m., Nikiski girls will play Bethel at 3 p.m. and Nikiski boys will play Bethel at 4:45 p.m.

In action Saturday: Nikiski girls will play CIA at 10 a.m., Nikiski boys will play CIA at 11:45 a.m., Seward girls will play Bethel at 1:30 p.m. and Seward boys will play Bethel at 3:15 p.m.

Nenana Invitational Tournament

The Seldovia girls defeated Effie Kokrine 47-31 to advance to the semfinals of the Nenana Invitational Tournament on Thursday. The Sea Otters will play the Fort Yukon-Nenana winner at 6:30 p.m. today.

Sarah Geagel paced Seldovia with 18 points, while Sarah O'Leary had 16 points and Courtney Collier added 11. For the Warriors, Shannon Hosken had 14 points.

Also at the NIT, the Nikolaevsk boys notched a 63-48 victory over Effie Kokrine. Nikolaevsk led 30-13 at halftime. Leading scorers for Nikolaevsk were Mark Fefelov with 22, Jonah Yakunin with 13 and Christopher Kalugin with 14. Nikolaevsk will take on the Fort Yukon-Nenana winner today in the semifinals at 8 p.m.
