Soldotna softball team to have meeting

The Soldotna High School softball team will have a meeting on Thursday at the library at Soldotna High School. All current and interested players are invited to attend. For more information, contact David Cleveland at 260-7236 or 262-1288.

Nikiski girls, Houston boys get wins

The Nikiski girls and boys basketball teams split games with Southcentral Conference rival Houston on Saturday at Houston.

The Bulldogs won the girls game 55-28 to improve to 14-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

Nikiski used its defense early and its offense late in the game. After holding the Hawks to just 15 points through three quarters, while scoring 23, the Bulldogs erupted for 32 points in the final quarter to break the game open.

Becca Carlson paced Nikiski with 17 points, including four 3-pointers, while also adding eight rebounds. Hannah Thompson had 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Caylee Redford had 14 points for Houston.

In the boys game, the Hawks grabbed a 24-7 lead after one quarter and never looked back. Kenny Fagan paced Nikiski with 15 points.

Homer JV sweeps Seldovia

The Homer junior varsity girls and boys basketball teams swept Seldovia on Saturday in Homer.

In the girls game, Homer’s junior varsity defeated the Sea Otters 48-45 by outscoring them 19-4 in the final quarter. Jennifer Giles had 13 points for Seldovia, while Tatiana Gruber added 12 points.

In the boys game, the Mariners scored all 10 points in overtime for a 55-45 victory. Griffin Swick and Levi Harkness had 10 points to lead Seldovia.
