ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Anchorage police are investigating the death of an 8-month-old girl who died Monday.

Officers were called to a Spenard home where the infant was found unconscious, police said. Efforts to revivie the baby failed and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary autopsy was performed Tuesday, but the cause of death has not been determined, police said. Further tests are pending.

''We are very, very actively investigating it,'' detective Dave Parker said.

Police also responded Monday to a home in East Anchorage where a 6-month-old boy was found dead. That death was found to be accidental and police are not investigating further, Parker said.

No details of the accident were released.
