Hakkinen places 31st in Italy
Biathlete Jay Hakkinen of Kasilof barely missed the top 30 in the men’s 20-kilometer individual competition on Tuesday at the World Championships in Antholz, Italy, finishing 31st.
He crossed the finish line 4 minutes, 47.4 seconds behind Raphael Poiree of France, who was perfect on the shooting range and finished in 56:14.6.
Hakkinen, who placed 18th in Sunday’s Pursuit competition, missed two shots in the first standing stage and another in the final stage, yet still qualified for the Mass Start competition based on the World Cup points he earned in the Pursuit.
“I was trying too hard to hit them (when his missed two) and held a bit long,” he told USBiathlon.org.
