Greetings from frosty Kasilof.

I hope your week is off to a good start despite the irritating cold snap we are going through. I console myself with seed catalogs and the thought that it's only temporary.

Though many may already know; a lady from Copper Center made Tustumena 200 sled dog race history last week by being the first woman to win the Kenai Peninsulas, only Iditarod qualifier. Congratulations to Jessica Hendricks and her amazing dog team.

The Kasilof public library is hosting a Scholastic book fair through Friday. A variety of popular and award winning new children's books are available for sale this week at "your" local library. It is located inside Tustumena school and its extended hours this week are Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For further information regarding the book fair or the library, call 252-1120.

Central Emergency Services is seeking applicants for the volunteer fire and emergency medical services program. Kasilof and Kalifornsky Beach Road folks interested in serving our community by volunteering should call Captain Keith Hamilton at 398-4459 for more information and stop by the Soldotna CES station to pick up an application.

Kasilof resident and executive director of Love INC Ingrid Edgerly invites folks to the Love INC annual fund-raiser dinner Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. Dine with others in support of a community ministry that provides the school breakfast program and help for those in need.

Dinner seating is limited so call now for your ticket and the particulars about the evening. You can reach Love INC at 283-5252.

Skyview High School's production of "Godspell," a musical, is playing Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Soldotna High school auditorium. Starring in the show, based on the Gospel of Matthew are Kasilof students Kelsey Shields, Merrick Jackinsky and Becky Kilfoyle.

Best belated birthday wishes to Clam Gulch residents Charlie Harris and Rocky Marciano and Mike Lampton of Kasilof. Other folks celebrating their birthday this week are Todd Hansen, Steve Hayes, Dr. Paul Goodwin, Craig Lant, Jack Fisler and Keith Hutchins.

Happy anniversary wishes to Ray and Maxine Clouatre. They wed 27 years ago Monday.

Thanks to those folks that send me their news and kind words, I appreciate it. If you would like to see your news here call 252-1220.

Until next week, watch out for moose and think spring.
