Richard Thomas "Rick" Hills
Soldotna resident Richard Thomas "Rick" Hills died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004. He was 35.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Soldotna.
Mr. Hills was born June 4, 1968, in Soldotna to Tom and Dolly Hills. He graduated from Soldotna High School in 1987 and worked in the oil fields on the North Slope and on offshore platforms. He spent many summers commercial fishing in Bristol Bay and Cook Inlet.
Twelve years ago, he met Heidi Metteer and they had two children together. They lived in Anchorage for a short time and settled in Soldotna to raise their family.
"Rick loved spending time with his family, especially if they went fishing with him. Rick enjoyed cooking, fishing, hockey, snowmachining and staying busy. Rick also cherished times spent with his dear friends Jack Wright, Joe Schultz and best friend, Kurt Saltenberger," his family said.
"Rick was very charming and had a great sense of humor and a contagious smile. He was very respectful of his elders and was always willing to help anyone who needed help. He was a very hard worker and was always at peace while fishing on the river. We will miss Rick dearly, but he will forever be in our hearts," his family said.
He is survived by his parents, Tom and Dolly Hills; his significant other, Heidi Metteer; daughters, MacKenzie and Katiebeth; son, Calvin; brother, Troy Hills, and sister-in-law, Peggy; nephews, Craig and Timmy; niece, Danielle; many aunts, uncles and cousins in Alaska and in the Lower 48; and many close friends.
