SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The Coast Guard dropped white carnations into the Pacific Ocean Tuesday in tribute to the victims of the Alaska Airlines crash last week.
The helicopter crew had been scheduled to drop the flowers after a memorial service Monday in San Mateo, but was grounded by fog.
The Coast Guard made it out to sea at about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, said Petty Officer Bill Unger.
Eighty-eight people were killed when Flight 261 plummeted into the Pacific off Point Hueneme. More than two dozen victims were from the San Francisco Bay area.
