ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A 17-year-old boy died and a 43-year-old woman was critically injured in separate traffic accidents in Anchorage, police said Saturday.
Daniel K. Utoafili was killed about 10 p.m. Friday after he lost control of his speeding car in South Anchorage. Utoafili was ejected from the 2000 Acura Integra, which flipped several times and struck a light pole. Police said Utoafili was not wearing a seat belt.
A passenger was injured, but his injuries do not appear to be life threatening, police said.
In the second accident, Debbie J. Drennon's 1988 Ford Escort ran a red light at the Seward Highway and 36th Avenue about 12:40 a.m. Saturday, police said. The vehicle was hit by a 1996 Ford Aerostar van.
Drennon was taken to Providence Alaska Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition Saturday evening. The two people in the van suffered less serious injures, police said.
