Congratulations to parent volunteer Lauri Lingafelt for being awarded the Community Outstanding Performance Award by the Alaska Department of Education for 2004-05. She will receive her award at the Alaska Statewide Special Education Conference in Anchorage.

The PTA thanks everyone who came to the Reading Carnival. Thanks to chair Lauri Lingafelt for her hard work and to Tonya Gilmore, Cheryl, Vickie and Christina Tachick, Lisa Groleske and Gayle Buben for helping sell popcorn and pop.

The fifth- and sixth-grade classes are studying guitar in February. Students are learning the different parts of the guitar, how to finger pick different songs and a few simple chords. They already know the theme from "Jaws" and will learn "Yankee Doodle" in the near future. Students are allowed to bring in their own guitars and store them in the music room.

Miss Southwick will be gone Friday during conferences. If you would like to schedule a conference with Miss Southwick regarding music class or band, stop by anytime Thursday or call her office number at 260-5134 to schedule a conference time.
