Fish and Game advisory to meet

The Kenai-Soldotna Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet today at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building.

The topic will be board of game and board of fish proposals and to review results of last board of game.

Haiti fundraiser makes a splash

Skyview High School will host a community open house to raise funds for the Haiti relief efforts from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the school. Dancing, music, silent auction and games are some of the planned activities. A "dive in" showing of the movie "Finding Nemo" also is planned from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will be able to swim while watching the movie. Limited space is available and is on first-come first-served basis.

Suggested donations are $6 for adults, $4 for youth ages 5-15 years old and children ages 4 years old and younger are admitted in for free. Money will go to the Haiti relief efforts through the American Red Cross. Call 260-2300, for more information.

Car seat event slated

There will be a car seat check up at the Kenai Fire Department on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, call Jane Fellman at 714-4539.

Kasilof historical association to meet

Kasilof Regional Historical Association will sponsoring a free public presentation by Dorothy Gray about the restoration of the Kenai Russian Orthodox Church at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Kasilof Historical Museum, at Mile .5 Kalifornsky Beach Road. Adoptive families to gather

A potluck for adoptive families and their children will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Soldotna.

Cribbage tourney set

The Cook Inlet Lions cribbage tournament continues Saturdays at 3 p.m. at the American Legion Post 20 on Cook Street in Kenai. The public is invited to participate. For more information, call Raymond at 776-5688 or Bob at 776-5339.

Public health plans 1-day closure

Kenai Public Health Center will be closed Monday in observance of President's Day. It will reopen Tuesday at 8 a.m. Call 335-3400 for more information.

Pets to be discussed

The Kenai Animal Control Officer, Christi Matti, will make a presentation at the Kenai Community Library from 4 to 5 p.m. Feb. 22.

Her topics will be picking the right pet, basic pet care and winterizing your pet. Call 283-4378 for more information.

Library fundraiser set for March 12

The Friends of Kenai Community Library will sponsor a fundraiser for the library addition from 7 to 9 p.m. March 12 at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center.

A silent and outcry auction and other events will be held. Proceeds will go toward a matching grant from the Rasmuson Foundation. Items, gift certificates are needed for the auctions and other events.

Oilers baseball celebration slated

The Peninsula Oilers Baseball team will bring back the Oilers Gusher baseball celebration, as well as holding a Hall of Fame Induction. The event will be held Feb. 27 at the Kenai Mall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $100 for two. Dinner will be steak and chicken. Grand prizes are a Honda MUV (multipurpose utility vehicle) side-by-side valued at more than $12,000, as well as a womans' bracelet valued at $10,000. Door prizes are also planned. Senior Olympics slated

The seventh annual Senior Olympic games will be held Feb. 16 through 20. There will be 15 games planned and winners will receive gold, silver or bronze medals. A no-host dinner will be held at Ginger's Restaurant after the awards ceremony. Participants must be at least 55-years-old to participate. AFS dinner fundraiser set

The 30th annual AFS gourmet dinner fundraiser will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Catholic Church in Kenai. Tickets are available at River City Books and from AFS members. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children 14 years old and under.

This is a fundraiser for Kenai Peninsula students wishing to go abroad on a student exchange with the AFS program and for families hosting AFS students here.
