Sandra Lynn Johnson

Longtime Sterling resident Sandra Lynn (Minnamon) Johnson died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at home with family by her side after a 2-year battle with cervical cancer. She was 45.

A celebration of her life will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church in Sterling. Pastor Dave Arestad will officiate.

Mrs. Johnson was born Jan. 29, 1966, in Canandaigua, N.Y. She moved with her family in March 1977 and graduated from Soldotna High School. She married Robert D. Johnson in May 2004, and he was her best friend and the love her life.

Mrs. Johnson worked at the Upper Deck, Duck Inn and Gary's Auto Electric. She was a very spiritual person and enjoyed gardening, cooking and camping.

"Sandy was a beautiful person. She was a mom, wife and best friend. Sandy always put everybody else before herself. She loved to have family and friends over for cookouts and fires in the fire pit," her family said.

Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Harry S. Minnamon; paternal grandparents, Art and Connie Minnamon; and maternal grandparents, George and Josephine Myers.

She is survived by her husband, Robert D. "Bob" Johnson; children, Amber and fianc, John Lansing, Troy and fiance, Jessica Ellison, April and husband Chazz Gourley, Brandon and Zachery; brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Dolly Minnamon; mother, Shirley Myers; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Terry and Jeanetta Johnson; grandchildren, Taylor, Tori, Chevelle and Tytan; several nieces and nephews; and an aunt and uncle, Kay and Ernie Griffin.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Robert D. Johnson Family Fund at Wells Fargo Bank.

Arrangements were by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
