I fly the flag of the United States in my front yard.
I enjoyed a bumper sticker I saw the other day, "BUSH KNEW." Of course he knew, but what is more disturbing is the "so what?" spin.
Why do we the people tolerate the leader of our country initiating and executing a war where we invade a foreign country, topple its government and allow anarchy to replace it?
Why, indeed? Because we were fed a total line of crap from the president and all his men! To voice dissent was spun as treasonous and endangering the troops.
Spin it anyway you can: George W. is the one endangering the troops, not those that would beg for reason. When all the reasons for war turn out to be fabrications, what do we get? "It was something we needed to do."
I've been to war. We didn't need my war, and we didn't need this one. I wish I could undo the suffering we've inflicted on the families of U.S., British and Iraqi casualties. But until we find a cure for excessive testosterone, we will always be going to war.
Now we approach election season. We will see our president painted as a mountain of integrity, the only man that could have brought our nation through these trying times. History will not use the same paintbrush. Not just our president, but his entire administration will be seen as exploiting a horrible tragedy to implement its own agenda.
When our nation finally wakes up to see that we are being managed by fear, this administration will be regarded as "McCarthyism on steroids." It will take a while, I'm afraid. But I hope I'm still around when we realize what a monster this administration has been. Not because I want to say "I told you so," but because I want to feel good about my country again.
Till then, my flag continues to fly, upside down.
