Bird club meeting set

The Keen Eye Peninsula Bird Club will meet to build owl nesting boxes at 2 p.m. today in the Marlows garage.

Participants are asked to bring their own 1 by 10 at least 8 foot long board and two hinges. For more information or to register, call 262-5218.

Gebhardt Iditarod send off set

A send off event for local Iditarod musher Paul Gebhardt will begin at 4 p.m. today at The Crossing Restaurant in Soldotna. Attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable item for the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank.

The afternoon will include an auction, and tales from the trail by Gebhardt. For information or to donate an auction item, call Evy Gebhardt at 398-1481.

Grief to be discussed

The National Family Caregiver Support Program will hold caregiver training from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Gail Simons with Hospice of the Central Peninsula will discuss how to help with the grieving process.

Women leadership workshop set

The University of Alaska Fairbanks, Cooperative Extension Service Office will hold a "StrongWomen Program Leader training from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Peninsula Grace Brethren Church. The program is an evidence-based strength training program designed for mid-life and older women. Linda Tannehill with the Cooperative Extension Service will lead the workshop. The topics covered will be tool kit content, exercise demonstrations, practice and breakout sessions for attendees to learn the exercises and how to teach them to participants.

Developmental screening offered

Frontier Community Services Early Intervention and the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District will hold free developmental, vision and hearing screenings for children up to aged 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 43335 Kalifornsky Beach Road, Suite 36 in the Red Diamond Center, behind Diamond Video. Marital advice offered

Grace Lutheran Church will host a marriage workshop weekend called "Strengthen the Friendship at the Heart of your Marriage" beginning at 8 p.m. Feb. 15 and continuing through Feb. 17 at the Aspen Hotel in Soldotna.

The topic will be practical learning activities to do with your spouse.

Pastor Randy Hunter, professional marriage counselor from Middleton, Wisc., will be the featured speaker.

The cost including a New York steak or chicken cordon bleu dinner Saturday night is $60. Hotel rooms are extra.

Rooms have been blocked for participants at the hotel (reservations must be made with the hotel for $83 a night).
