Homer Electric schedules power outage

Homer Electric Association has an outage scheduled for Monday to replace electronic communication equipment. According to HEA, the outage area will be from the intersection of the North Fork Road and Sterling Highway in Anchor Point through Ninilchik to Leon Windeler Hwy. near mile post 127.5 of the Sterling Highway.

Coast Guard auxiliary meets

The USCG Auxiliary Kenai Flotilla invites the public to join us at our monthly meeting on Feb. 19, 2011, at the Emergency Response Center, 215 Wilson Lane, Soldotna. The meeting starts at 1 p.m., and refreshments will be served. For more information call Timothy M. Winters at (907) 351-7895.

Learn heritage scrapbooking

Kenai Totem Tracers Genealogical Society meets Wednesday, Feb 9, 6 -- 8 p.m. at Kenai United Methodist Church. This month, Elaine Howell will show us how to make a heritage scrapbook. Bring a photo or clipping you want to preserve. The society meets the second Wednesday of each month.

Deadline for Teacher nominations looms

The deadline to nominate Kenai area school teachers for the BP Teacher of Excellence award is Feb. 14. The program recognizes Alaskan educators for their dedication to teaching and inspiring students. Each Teacher of Excellence will receive a $500 gift card and one teacher will be chosen as the Kenai BP Teacher of the Year. That teacher will receive a $1,500 scholarship for continuing education. Sign unveiling for Navarre, Gilman facilities

The Kenai Peninsula Borough will hold a public dedication on Feb. 15 to unveil the new signs for the George A. Navarre Administration Building and the Donald E. Gilman River Center. The first unveiling will begin at 4:30 p.m., in the front parking lot of the George A. Navarre Administration Building. The second unveiling will begin at 5 p.m., at the Donald E. Gilman River Center. The new signs were approved by the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly by resolution 2010-077, on Sept. 7, 2010. The public is invited and welcomed to attend..

Kenai Resilience Monthly Gathering

Summer market needs vendors

Bingo coming to Nikiski Senior Center

Bingo is back at the Nikiski Senior Center on Feb. 12. Doors open at 4 p.m.; play starts at 5 p.m. Limited snacks and drinks may be purchased. One door prize winner will win 25,000 air miles. Call 776-7654 for more information.

Third Annual Alaska Walk for Autism slated

The walk is scheduled for April 16th from 12-3. It will be at Skyview High School. Organizers are looking for volunteers and donations of items or money for the door prizes and raffles. There is also space for agencies and vendors to have information to show what there is offered in the area. The walk is sponsored by the Autism Society of Alaska. It is a non-profit organization that is run by volunteers. Money raised is used to provide support and information for families, caregivers and professionals who work with persons with autism. Library closes for Presidents Day

In observation of Presidents Day, the Kenai Community Library will be closed Saturday, Feb, 19, through Monday, Feb. 21. No checked-out items will be due on those days.

Community services meeting scheduled

Frontier Community Services will hold its annual Board of Director's Meeting on Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska.

Election of officers will be held, agency directors will report on the status of individual programs and employees will be recognized for their years of service. Dinner will be provided courtesy of the FCS Day Habilitation and Vocational program.

Central Peninsula Counseling Services patients, whose charts were closed in the year 2003 or earlier are being purged. Anyone interested in a copy of their records need to contact Tracie at 260-5030 by March 1.

Grange meeting coming up

The local Slikok Grange meets at Mugz coffee house in the Blazy Mall in Soldotna on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 6:30 p.m. for potluck (kept simple!) and meeting at 7 p.m. The topic will be planning for the upcoming Alaska State Grange convention in May. We are hosting this event here in Kenai/Soldotna and it will be partnered with Ag in the Classroom. Families and all interested parties are encouraged to attend.
