Soldotna chamber award winner humbled by group's recognition

As a recipient of the 2004 Soldotna Pioneer Award, I feel especially privileged to have been honored for this Alaska award.

When I entered Alaska for the first time in 1968, I never dreamed that some day I would be esteemed and recognized among those already christened "Soldotna Trailblazers." I always thought the word "pioneer" made reference only to real old people and suddenly, some 44 years later, I realize "I is one!"

Again, I am honored to know that I have played some small role in a cast of so many before me. Receiving the Pioneer Award gives me a great deal of appreciation and gratitude as well as a great deal of pride.

It is really all you folks who dedicate so much time and effort to better our community that deserve and award.

Thank you so very much for this recognition!
