Seamus Kennedy performed for K-Beach students on Jan. 27 as part of his yearly trip to the peninsula. Thanks to Mike Sweeney and all the sponsors who helped bring him to Soldotna.

First-graders started research on different kinds of transportation. Parents are reminded to keep working on unique modes of transportation to make out of a cardboard box. The projects are due at school Feb. 20, and will be shown off at the following Monday morning assembly, as well as at the community parade March 17. Boxes are available at the recycling center by the borough building or at U-Haul.

First-graders also are learning to make tally marks, counting by fives to 100, using a ruler to draw line segments, sorting common objects and adding two-digit numbers using dimes and pennies in math.

The K-Beach Title I program thanks the parents, students and staff who helped at the game booth at the Peninsula Reading Carnival and Airgas for its contribution of helium.

The school is participating in Register Tapes for Education, sponsored by IGA. Cash register receipts will be collected from Country Foods in Kenai until May 15. There is a box in the school's main entry to deposit receipts. The school will be able to cash in receipts for items ranging from art supplies to computer and video materials.

The Artist in Residence this year is performing artist Eddie Wood. He will work with kindergarten through third-grade students on music, movement and theatrical performance Feb. 23 to March 19. Artists in Schools is a program of the Alaska State Council on the Arts, which receives funding support from the Alaska Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, with additional support from the K-Beach PTA.
