Good day to all of my Nikiski neighbors. Brrrr, it has been very cold.

Did you know there is a family gym time offered at North Community Recreation Center from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturdays? It might be a great place to play and stay warm.

The fifth annual Senior Olympics will be held next week across the Kenai Peninsula. Games will include water walking, pool, card games, darts, basketball, bowling, ping pong and more. The annual awards banquet will be held at the Peninsula Center Mall from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Feb. 23. For more information about where to go to cheer our Nikiski team on, call LoRetta at 776-7654.

Blood pressure checks will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at the Nikiski Senior Center.

The Weight Watchers program will be held at 4 p.m. today at the Nikiski North Star Elementary school. Call Sharon at 262-7534 for more information.

The Nikiski Senior Service Area monthly board meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Nikiski Senior Center. The meetings are open to the public.

The Nikiski Senior Citizen's, Inc. monthly board meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Nikiski Senior Center. Public comment starts at 12:45 p.m.

A game night will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Nikiski Senior Center.

An American Red Cross Lifeguard class will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 1. Participants must also have a screening, which are held at 6 p.m. Tuesday and at 6 p.m. Feb. 19. For more information, call Nigel at 776-8800.

Adult dodge ball registration will begin Feb. 25 at Nikiski Community Recreation Center. Teams must have eight players and can be coed. Participants must be at least 17. The cost is $25 per participant. For more information, call Tammy at 776-8800.

There is a sign-up sheet at the Nikiski Senior Center for volunteers who want to remove a few trees from the lakeside to provide a better view for the tenants at Nikiski Senior Shore Apartments. Patrons can also sign-up to pick up wood once it is complete. If anyone would like to make a donation; the center will make arrangements to have wood delivered. For more information, call 776-7654.

Kennedys honored

Nikiski residents Emily and Megan Kennedy were named to the dean's list at their respective colleges. To be named to the list students at both colleges must achieve at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Emily is a freshman at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash.

Megan is a junior at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. She is majoring in elementary education with a minor in sign language.

The girls are the daughters of John and Mary Kennedy and granddaughters of Marge Bushman, all of Nikiski.
