Counseling association meets today

The Kenai Peninsula Counseling Association will meet at 5:30 p.m. today at the Peninsula Community Health Center, 230 E. Marydale Ave. Suite 2 in Soldotna. It is open to the public. For more information, e-mail Beth at bselby@alaska.net.

Ping pong continues

Ping pong is available at 6 p.m. Mondays at Redoubt Elementary School. All ages are welcome. Participants are asked to bring a paddle.

After-school clubs to meet

Good News Clubs featuring stories, songs, games, prizes and snacks will be held at: Soldotna Elementary and the Aurora Borealis Charter schools Tuesday; and Kalifornsky Beach, Mountain View, and Sterling elementary schools Thursday.

The clubs are sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship and meet immediately after the last bell. Parents must provide transportation for their children following the one hour club meeting. For more information, call Phyllis at 262-9605.

Anxiety to be discussed

Central Peninsula Counseling Services free resiliency building class "How to Beat Anxiety" will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the conference room at Peninsula Community Health Center, 230 E. Marydale Ave., Soldotna. The facilitator will be Nathaniel Oliver. For more information, call 260-3691.

Martial advice offered

Grace Lutheran Church will host a marriage workshop weekend called "Strengthen the Friendship at the Heart of your Marriage" beginning at 8 p.m. Friday and continuing through Sunday at the Aspen Hotel in Soldotna. The topic will be practical learning activities to do with your spouse.

Pastor Randy Hunter, professional marriage counselor from Middleton, Wisc., will be the featured speaker.

The cost including a New York steak or chicken cordon bleu dinner Saturday night is $60. Hotel rooms are extra.

Scholarship offered

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary of the Jerry V. Horn Memorial Post 10046 in Soldotna is offering the Vickie Webb Nelson Memorial Scholarship.

The recipient must be an Alaska high school graduating senior or an Alaskan enrolled in a home-study program, with a desire to further their education. Citizenship, leadership and financial need will be considered.

Monetary awards will be given to local winners and a chance to compete for the $1,000 scholarship awarded to the statewide winner. Application deadline is Friday.

Presidents' Day closures planned

Kenai Public Health Center and the Kenai Community Library will be closed Feb. 18.

Women to take a break

Peninsula Take A Break will hold its February brunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at Solid Rock Conference Center.

Betz Cooper will discuss why healthy eating starts in the home. Homemade rolls, made from fresh ground wheat will be sampled. Music will be provided by Sheila Bierdeman. The inspirational speaker will be Zeneida Sacapano.
