Call for submissions

The Central Peninsula Writers Group is calling for submissions for the 13th Annual Writers presentation March 13. Adult and high school aged writers from the Central Kenai Peninsula, Cooper Landing to Ninilchik to Nikiski are eligible to enter. Entries are due Saturday and must be accompanied by an entry form. Submissions can be sent or brought to the library.

Writers Present will be at Triumvirate Theater on March 13 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Youth art show seeks entries

"The Little Kids Show" to be hung at the Kenai Fine Arts Center in April, and in conjunction with the annual Kenai Peninsula Borough High School students art show, "Visual Feast." Entrants ages two- to 12-years-old. Homeschoolers welcome. The cost is a single $2 entry fee per child and up to three entries permitted. All entries must be original works of art, no tracing, no coloring books, and must be mounted on a background color, larger than the work of art, itself.

Parents must fill out a parent and child information labels when dropping off art work at the center. Entries must be in for us to hang by march 31st. There will be a joint reception. Recognition awards will be given to participants. For more information, call 262-6312.

Short story contest begins

Radical Arts for Women is sponsoring a short story contest open to women living in Alaska. The fiction pieces must be between 250 and 5,000 words and contain some lesbian content. The grand prize is $500, second place is $300, and third place is $100.

Deadline is Monday. There is no entry fee. Winners will be announced at Celebration of Change on March 27. For more information, at

Art class offered in Nikiski

The Nikiski Community Recreation Center is holding an arts and crafts class youth in grades one through six on Fridays from 4 to 5:15 p.m. The cost is $3 a class or a 10-punch card for $25. For more information, call at 776-8800.

Basket weaving offered

Mary Kroll will hold basket weaving classes in the workrooms of the Kenai Fine Art Center. The classes are designed for beginners and can hold 4 to 5 people per class. The cost of the classes will be $50 for a two hour class. Kroll will furnish the supplies for the class but students will need to bring some of their own tools.

The dates and times for the classes will be announced after it is determined how many people are interested in taking the classes.

Kids' reading program continues

Triumvirate Bookstore in the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna is hosting a Frequent Reading Program.

Kids may sign up at the bookstore, pick out one free book, a reading calendar and program rules.

Senior center seeks art

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center is seeking artists to display artwork at the center for a month at a time, beginning in 2010. Artists will be responsible for putting art up and taking it down. For more information, call 262-2322.
