This listing of Soldotna Community School classes beginning this week serves as a reminder for preregistered participants. Most classes require preregistration and prepayment. If you did NOT preregister, call the Soldotna Community School office, at 262-6768, to check on cancellations and confirm your attendance. Details about each class can be found in the Spring 2001 Soldotna Community School brochure, which is available at Soldotna and Kenai public libraries, the city of Soldotna and the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.
Self-Hypnosis for stress management and relaxation: Class taught by Gary Fandel, certified hypnotherapist, at Soldotna Middle School room 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. Class will teach and give participants experience with self-inductions, self-suggestions, imagery, relaxation techniques, acupressure points to relieve tensions and headaches. Handouts and a cassette tape of the session will be provided. The class will be held one night for adults. The cost is $15 per person or $25 for couples.
Raising a thinking child: Class taught by Lisa Schmitter at Soldotna Middle School library from 7 to 9 p.m. This class will help parents implement the "raising a thinking child" approach by Myrna Shure into daily life and provide other information on child development and positive parenting. The class will be held for four weeks with an eight-person minimum, 15 maximum. The cost of the class is $40.
Alaska concealed carry and the law: Class taught by Rod Christopher, from Peninsula Weapons Academy, at Kenai River Center Friday from 6:30 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The class teaches firearm safety, handgun operation, avoidance of attacks, firearms and the law, cleaning and storage of firearms, controlling a violent confrontation, selecting a handgun for self defense, handgun shooting fundamentals and positions. The class includes five firearm qualifications. The class is for persons 21 and older. The cost is $90.
