Team Alaska announces biathlon, basketball selections

Team Alaska has announced the teams for boys and girls basketball and for biathlon to compete in the upcoming Arctic Winter Games.

Girls basketball coach Deb Lowney of Homer named Piper Daugharty, Lindsey Layland and Jill Temple from Homer; April Morlock and Ema Olsen from Wasilla; Hannah Delaney and Lacie Wortham from Kenai; and April Heffner, Karen Senette and Jessica Stenga from Soldotna to the squad.

For the boys team, coach Mike Adams of Cordova will field a team that includes John Mazzella from Petersburg, Scott Bergmann from Juneau, Mikee Reodica from Cordova, Kyle Fossman from Haines, Jeremy Head from Nome, Eric Gile from Wrangell, Thorton DePriest from Palmer, Logan Lee from Sitka, and Mike Pate and Tanner Pollack from Homer.

The basketball teams are made up of athletes born in 1988 or later.

The girls biathlon team will consist of Kallie Brown of Galena, Allison Ross of Anchorage, and Alina Rykaczewski of Homer. The boys biathlon team will include Tobin Hagny-Farr of Nenana, Jeff Bue of Fairbanks and Taylor Karnikis of Kasilof.
