Volunteers sought for after prom
The Soldotna High School after-prom committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday. Volunteers still are needed in order to host the party.
Pop Warner seeks volunteers

Giant pumpkins to be discussed
Central Peninsula Maser Gardeners winter lecture series continues with a discussion on growing giant pumpkins and other large vegetables from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road. JD Megchelsen, state record holder for pumpkin growing, will be the featured speaker. It is open to the public. For more information, call 262-5824.
Carnival fundraiser slated
The Ninilchik School band will host a carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the school. Tickets for the game and food booths are $1 each. The band is raising money for a trip to a music festival in Orlando, Fla.
Movie night offered in Sterling
The Sterling Senior Center will have a free showing of “The Last of the Mohicans” promptly at 7 p.m. Friday. Free popcorn and coffee will be served. Snack items and hamburgers and hot dogs will be available for purchase. For more information, call the center at 262-6808.
Reading carnival moves to SoHi
The fourth annual Peninsula Reading Carnival has been moved from Soldotna Middle School to Soldotna High School. The carnival will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds will benefit literacy projects.
