KENAI (AP) -- A Soldotna man was charged with driving while intoxicated and animal cruelty after he drove into a ditch with his dog tied to the back of his truck.
Warren Eide, 34, was driving his truck late last week when he lost control and drove the truck into a ditch near Mile 18.5 of Kalifornsky Beach Road.
It was discovered that Eide had not unleashed his dog from the hitch of his truck when he left his previous stop. The dog was dragged for several miles before Eide crashed his vehicle.
The dog, a husky, was taken to Twin Cities Veterinary Clinic in Soldotna, where the veterinarian determined the injuries were not life-threatening.
Eide was remanded to Wildwood Pretrial Facility and held in lieu of $500 bail. The charge of cruelty to animals was forwarded to the Kenai District Attorney's Office.
