Former Kenai resident Phyllis Montgomery died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, in Palm Bay, Fla., after a battle with cancer. She was 81.
A service is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, in Palm Bay.
Mrs. Montgomery was born Aug. 15, 1929, in Silverton, Ore., to Reginald Clark and Esther Cox.
She and husband John Lowe moved to Anchorage in 1963. She later moved to Boise, Idaho, in 1976 and in 1981 married Jimmie Montgomery. Later the couple moved to Palm Bay to live near her daughter, Keo. She travelled to Kenai almost every summer to visit her son Bryan and grandchildren. She helped out at HiLo Charters, which her son owned.
Mrs. Montgomery loved to fish for salmon and in the past few year she fished for halibut. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life.
Mrs. Montgomery was preceded in death by husband Jim Montgomery.
She is survived by children Keo Fred and her husband, Mike Fred, of Palm Bay; Helen DeAlba and husband, Rick DeAlba; Bryan Lowe; Bob Montgomery and wife, Ruth Montgomery; grandchildren Rachel Lowe, John Fred, Bryson Lowe, Katie Montgomery and Josh Montgomery; great grandchildren Hannah Autry and Mckenzie Spence; sisters Bernadine Bowen and Dorthy Gilbert; and brothers George Clark and Richard Clark.
