Public budget hearings planned today

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District will hold a public budget meeting at Homer High School today at 7 p.m.

AARP is sponsoring tax assistance

The schedule of tax assistance being provided on the Kenai Peninsula by the American Association of Retired Persons is as follows:

Homer: Today, Wednesday, Friday. Check with Homer Senior Center, 235-7655.

Kenai: Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon at the Kenai Senior Center. Call 283-4156.

Nikiski: Wednesdays. Call the Nikiski Senior Center at 776-7654.

Seward: Check the Seward Senior Center at 224-5604.

Sterling: Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Call the Sterling Senior Center for an appointment at 262-6808.

Chamber to host BP's community affairs director

The speaker at this week's Kenai Chamber of Commerce luncheon is Tom Gallagher, director of community affairs for BP Explorations. The topic is BP's Teachers of Excellence program. The meeting is open to the public and will begin at noon Wednesday at Paradisos Restaurant.

Brown bear stakeholder group meeting slated

The Kenai Brown Bear Stakeholder Group will meet Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Public comments will be accepted from 11:45 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. on Thursday and from 11:45 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. on Friday.

Homer blood drive looking for donors

On Friday, from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Homer Elks Lodge, there will be a Blood Bank of Alaska blood drive. All are encouraged to donate if it has been eight weeks or more since the last donation of blood.

Community contra dance planned

Kenai Folk Dancers will present a family and community contra dance Saturday at the Kalifornsky Beach Elementary School. Instruction and dancing will start at 7 p.m. and end at 10 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to bring an extra pair of clean, dry, nonmarking shoes and potluck refreshments.
