Local teams win on road

The Mariners outpaced the Kardinals in a Region III/4A game in Homer.

The Kardinals entered the fourth quarter facing a 20-point deficit, and while Kenai rallied to outscore the Mariners by 10 in the final, Homer's lead proved to be too much to overcome.

Sean Haynes led the Mariners with 18 points while three other teammates scored in double-digits.

Joel Reemtsma scored 21 points for that Kardinals and Marcus Webster sunk 20.

Ninilchik brings home 3A victories

The Region III- 2A Ninilchik Wolverines went north to Anchorage and the Susitna Valley Friday and Saturday to play two 3A classification teams and came back with a pair of wins.

Friday night, the Wolverines came back from a four-point first-half deficit to defeat Heritage Christian, 53-44.

Theresa Chihiluy scored 28 points Friday to lead all scorers for the weekend.

Saturday night, Ninilchik mauled Su Valley 63-32, behind Tasha and Wendy Leman's combined 33 points.
