Posted: Thursday, February 14, 2002

Where: 212-mile tri-oval at Daytona International Speedway.

When: 12:30 p.m. Sunday

Distance: 200 laps

Broadcast: Television NBC-Ch. 26; RadioMotor Racing Network

2001 winner: Michael Waltrip

Notes: The front row consists of drivers who are making their debuts in The Great American Race: Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick. ... The race is one of four on the circuit that requires the use of a restrictor plate, which reduces speeds for safety reasons. ... In the 43-year history of the race, only three drivers have won the Daytona 500 and the Winston Cup title in the same season. Richard Petty did it four times (1964, '71, '74 and '79) while Cale Yarborough (1977) and Jeff Gordon (1997) did it once.
