ANCHORAGE (AP) — Twenty snowmachine teams took off from Big Lake on Sunday, launching the 21st annual Tesoro Iron Dog race.

The 2,000-mile race goes to Nome and back to Big Lake again in a departure from some past years, which incorporated Fairbanks into either the start or finish.

Two-person teams driving separate snowmachines are competing for a $75,000 purse in the race.

The racers left the starting line in two-minute intervals, starting at 11 a.m.
