Kenai boys take Barrow tournament

The Kenai boys took the Barrow tournament, played Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Barrow.

Friday, the Kardinals notched a 65-63 win over Barrow, while Kenai wrapped up the title on Saturday with a 63-40 triumph over Bethel.

The Kenai girls took two of their three games in Barrow. The Kardinals defeated Grace on Friday 39-28 before losing 46-34 to Barrow on Saturday.

Yakutat sweeps CIA

Visiting Yakutat swept Cook Inlet Academy in nonconference basketball Monday. The boys won 79-78 in overtime, while the girls won 50-39.

In the girls game, Yakutat put three players in double figures and knocked down six 3-pointers in the victory. For Yakutat, Heidi Esbenshade had 15 points, Esther Esbenshade had 12 points and Sylvia Schumacher had 10 points. For CIA, Melissa Moffis had 13 points and Brooke Forsi had 10 points.

In the boys game, Kyle Dierick poured in 39 points to lead Yakutat to the win. Jack Kluskan pitched in 18 for Yakutat. For CIA, Nate Byrd had 25 points, Jeremy Franchino had 20 points, John Forsi had 13 points and Steven Burger had 12 points.
