Soldotna boys, girls sweep Skyview

Soldotna's cagers earned a sweep over Skyview on Saturday.

Karen Senette scored a team-high 20 points to lead the girls to a 64-41 victory.

The Stars exploded for a 26-point second quarter after being tied 9-9 after eight minutes of play. Nine different players tallied points for SoHi.

SkyHi was led by Casee Penrod with 16 points.

Ten different players recorded points for SoHi's boys as they rolled to a 68-40 win.

Boomer Blossom poured in 17 points for the Stars. Blaine Carver followed with 13.

Chad Oakes paced the Panthers with eight points.

Kenai girls 49, Kodiak 47

The visiting Kardinals ended the game on a 10-4 run to take a Northern Lights Conference victory from the Bears on Friday.

Raquel Young had 21 points to pace Kenai, while Joanna Garcia had 13 points for Kodiak.

Kodiak boys 57, Kenai 52, OT

The Bears notched a Northern Lights Conference victory over the visiting Kardinals on Friday.

A back-and-forth fourth quarter produced overtime, but Kodiak controlled the extra session. Ralphy Matatutia paced Kodiak with 21 points, while Zach Watkins added 12. Bo Reilly poured in 20 points for Kenai, while AJ Hull chipped in 11.

Kodiak girls 37, Kenai 31

Kodiak defeated Kenai Central in nonconference action on Saturday.

Kenai held Kodiak to eight first-half points. But the Bears scored 29 second-half points to Kenai's 14.

Raquel Young led Kenai with 11 points.

Kenai boys 53, Kodiak 39

Kenai's boys notched a nonconference win over Kodiak on Saturday.

Colton Hayes paced the Kards with four 3-pointers and 17 total points. Nine different players tallied points for Kenai.

Heritage boys 68, Seward 40

The Eagles remained unbeaten in the Southcentral Conference by topping the host Seahawks.

Heritage hit 13 3-pointers, with Jeremiah Ridgeway nailing six on the way to 24 points. Jonathan Millar had 14 points for the Eagles, while Jesse Miessner had 10. For Seward, Mike Thorn had 12 points and Andrew Buchanan added 10 points.

Ninilchik Invitational

The West junior varsity defeated Ninilchik 65-54 on Saturday to win the boys side of the Ninilchik Invitational, while the Wolverines settled for second place.

Will Sharp paced the Eagles with 16 points, while Lamar Brown and Markiss Arley had 15 points apiece. For Ninilchik, Jeff Klapak had 19 points while Sam Bennett had 21 points.

In Saturday girls action, Dimond's junior varsity wrapped up the girls title by topping Homer's junior varsity 74-13. Sierra Afoa had 26 points, while Aminola Cole added 15.

Klapak, Bennett and Hunter Cooper were named to the all-tournament team. Nikolaevsk's Mark Fefelov and Jonah Yakunin were also named to the all-tourney team.

Ninilchik's girls overcame an eight-point first-quarter deficit to defeat West's JV team 48-40 on Saturday. The Wolverines took second in the tournament.

After trailing by three after the first half, Ninilchik scored 33 second-half points to West's 22.

Lindsey Rohr led the Wolverines with 15 points.

Rohr, Lindsay Schnabl and Stevie Klein were named to the all-tournament team. Homer's Haley Oliver was also named to the all-tourney team.

In Friday girls action, Ninilchik topped the Homer junior varsity 50-29. Lindsey Rohr paced the Wolverines, who led 19-3 after the first quarter, with 15 points.

In other Friday girls action, Dimond's junior varsity topped West's junior varsity 73-41.

In Friday boys action, the Wolverines rolled to a 55-22 victory over Homer's junior varsity. Jeff Klapak poured in 23 points for the Wolverines, while Hunter Cooper added 17.

In the other Saturday boys game, Nikolaevsk topped Homer's junior varsity 61-54. Mark Fefelov had 22 points for the Warriors, while Christopher Kalugin had 16 points and Jonah Yakunin had 13 points. For Homer JV, Jose Jimenez had 17 points, Ryan Cotney had 15 points and Foster Shannon had 12 points.

Homer Winter Carnival

The Homer boys won their own tournament by defeating Chevak 52-36 on Saturday. Devon Kennelty paced the Mariners with 18 points. For Chevak, Cameron Olson had 11 points.

In other boys action on Saturday, Dillingham defeated Nanwalek 70-49. Reed Tennyson had 15 points for Dillingham, while Chris Kvasnikoff paced the Eagles with 17.

Dillingham caputed the girls title by edging Seldovia 42-40. Sarah Geagel had 16 points for Seldovia, while Courtney Collier had 14. In the other girls game, Chevak defeated Homer 56-46. Melissa Woods had 15 points for the Mariners, while Liz Needham had 10 points.

On Friday, the Dillingham girls notched a 47-35 victory over Homer. Kristin Smeaton led the charge for the Wolverines with 28 points, while Melissa Wood paced the Mariners with 12 points.

In other Friday girls action, Seldovia pulled out a 49-44 victory behind 24 points from Sarah Geagel and 12 points from Sarah O'Leary. For Chevak, Chelsea Lake had 17 points and Mary Olson added 13 points.

In Friday boys action, Homer cruised past Dillingham 46-25. Homer led 7-6 after one period, but opened up the game by outscoring the Wolverines 14-3 in the second quarter. Luke Garvey led a balanced attack for Homer by scoring 10 points, while Cade Schlagel had 11 for Dillingham.

In other Friday boys action, Chevak topped Nanwalek 88-52. For Chevak, Brian Andrews had 20 points, Cameron Olson had 16 points and Quincy Bennett had 15 points. For Nanwalek, Matthew Gain had 15 points, Chris Kvasnikoff had 14 points, Antone Ukatish had 12 points and Vladimir Moonin had 10 points.

Seward girls 35, Grace 23

The Seahawks notched a Southcentral Conference victory on Friday by outscoring the visiting Grizzlies 17-9 in the fourth quarter.

Emily Draper led a balanced scoring attack for Seward, netting eight points. For Grace, Mckenzie Fredrickson had 13 points.
