Not all mining is good mining

Andrew Jensen really missed the mark in his article "End Users Among Pebble Foes," (Peninsula Clarion, Feb. 7, 2011) by insinuating that people like Gordon Moore and jewelers who have signed on to the "No Dirty Gold" campaign are somehow hypocritical in their opposition to Pebble.

True, we all use the products of mining, but that does not mean that even those of us who support mining in general must support all projects, especially ill-conceived projects like Pebble and Chuitna that would displace a resource as vital to who we are as our salmon. There are now 350 runs of salmon virtually extinct in the Pacific Northwest. That is not a fate I want Alaska to repeat.
