Oilers sign Bruin for 2002 season
UCLA infielder Preston Griffin has signed with the Peninsula Oilers and joins teammate Mike Davern on the Oilers 2002 roster.
The 5-foot-11 sophomore from Long Beach, Calif., started 42 games at shortstop during his freshman season and is scholastically undeclared.
Florida State University freshman shortstop Stephen Drew broke a bone in his foot recently and will be lost to the team for four to eight weeks. Drew began the 2002 college season hitting .346 with two stolen bases while playing errorless ball in the No. 2 Seminoles' first six games.
The 2002 Oilers Gusher is slated for June 1. This year's theme will be Baseball, Baseball, Baseball.
The 20th annual team fund-raiser dinner-dance and raffle is scheduled to coincide with the opening of the team's season, which is one week later. Tickets for the event are $50.
