Reader opposes proposal to cut KPC funding

Posted: Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Thank you Gary Turner for your informative, well written, "Voices of the Peninsula" in the Feb. 11-12 Clarion.

Shame on you, Mayor Carey, for both the way you informed the involved parties of the suspended funding for Kenai Peninsula College and more importantly even considering suspending KPC funding. As a life long Peninsula resident and property taxpayer I fully support the current 5.4-percent funding of KPC and propose we provide more financial support. While we are at it, lets start funding the school district at maximum funding again.

There are few things I value more than education. We as a state and community must start prioritizing the education of our youth and adults. Let me remind you of the Chinese proverb, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
