Prisoner dies in apparent jailhouse suicide

PALMER (AP) -- An inmate at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility apparently jumped to his death early Friday.

The prisoner jumped from a second-story balcony at the Palmer jail about 3 a.m. and suffered massive head injuries, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The 48-year-old inmate is from Wasilla. Troopers were not releasing the man's name until his relatives could be notified.
