ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Adam Gerlach put Minnesota State-Mankato ahead in the third and the Mavericks defeated Alaska Anchorage 6-3 Saturday night in Western Collegiate Hockey Association action.
Shane Joseph put back a rebound for Minnesota (14-7-9 overall, 12-5-7 WCHA) just 56 seconds into the first period with a knock of the puck out of mid-air and into the net. The Seawolves answered on the power play at 12:04 when Curtis Glencross was at the front door to find the net.
In the second, B.J. Abel gave the Mavericks the lead beating Seawolf goalie Kurt Johnson low and to the glove side 59 second into the period. Matt Hanson tied it up for Alaska Anchorage at 11:04, about half way into a five-minute man advantage for the Seawolves.
Mankato took the lead again when Grant Stevenson from the slot fired the shot past the stick side of Johnson at 15:29 for an unassisted goal. Adam Gerlach kept up the scoring in the third at 4:22. Jake Brenk and Brock Becker followed with Mankato goals.
On a four-on-three advantage Ales Parez answered for the Seawolves at 19:13. Johnson had 23 saves for the Seawolves. Jason Jensen stopped 19 shots for the Mavericks.
