Gibbs makes honor society
Former Soldotna resident Aurora Anne Gibbs recently was inducted into the Golden Key International Society. To be inducted, a student must be a junior or senior and in the top 15 percent of his or her class.
Gibbs is a senior at the University of Alaska Anchorage and is majoring in business administration in accounting.
She is the daughter of James and Patricia Gibbs and is a 1997 graduate of Kalifonsky Christian School.
Franzmann named to Alumni Hall of Fame
Soldotna resident Albert W. Franzmann recently was elected to be inducted into the University of Idaho Alumni Hall of Fame.
Franzmann is a 1971 graduate of the College of Natural Resources with a doctor of philosophy in forest science. In the late '60s and early '70s, Franzmann conducted research at UI in the areas of environmental physiology and ecology of bighorn sheep in the Rocky Mountains. After his research stint on the Palouse, he became a wildlife research biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, director of the Kenai Moose Research Center and a professor of wildlife management at the University of Alaska. He is a founding member of the North American Moose Foundation. He also is a member of numerous professional and support organizations, along with business and community activities. In 2001, he received the Lifetime Conservationist Award from the Kenai Peninsula Chapter of the Safari Club International.
The Alumni Hall of Fame recipients will visit the Moscow campus May 13 to 15 for spring commencement activities. The induction ceremony will take place during a private ceremony May 13. Inductees also will be recognized during the UI commencement ceremony May 15.
Soldotna couple serving in Army
SPC Reuben C. Sublett III of Soldotna is stationed out of Fort Jackson, S.C., as a combat medic in the U.S. Army. His wife, SPC Sarah M. Sublett, also is a combat medic in the Army serving at Fort Jackson.
Reuben Sublett, a 1998 Skyview High School graduate, is the son of Bobbie and RC Sublett of Sterling.
Sarah Sublett, a 1997 graduate of Soldotna High School, is the daughter of Bill and Tracy Parker of Soldotna and Linda Dennis of Chehalis, Wash.
Area residents make deans' lists
Aubrey A. Byrne, Micah L. Houtz and Amanda F. Revnoldson, all of Kenai, recently were named to the dean's list for the fall semester at University of Alaska Fairbanks. Mark A. Barnette, also of Kenai, was named to the chancellor's list. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.99 to be named to the dean's list, while a student receiving 4.0 GPA is named to the chancellor's list.
Jamie Marie Montgomery and Matthew Thomas Mayer, both of Kenai, were named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Boise State University. Montgomery is a sophomore majoring in health science studies, and Mayer is a freshman majoring in pre-pharmacy.
Janna Christine Schaafsma of Soldotna recently was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Seattle Pacific University. To be named to the dean's list, a student must have completed at least 12 credits and attained a 3.50 or higher GPA.
Jared Robertson of Soldotna recently was named to the University of Montana Tech's honor roll for the fall semester. To be named to the honor roll, a student must maintain at least a 3.25 or higher GPA, while carrying at least 12 graded credit hours.
Joseph David Pault of Kenai was named to the dean's list for the College of Engineering at Colorado State University for the fall semester. To be named to the dean's list, a student must earn a 3.842 or higher GPA with a minimum of 14 credits for the semester. He is the son of Joe and Katie Pault and a 2002 graduate of Kenai Central High School.
Jolynn Montgomery of Kenai was named to the dean's list for the fall semester at the College of Arts and Sciences at Idaho State University. To be named to the list, students must maintain a 3.66 GPA or higher and complete 12 semester credits.
