Three Bears carries affected peanut butter brand

Alaska is one of the states pulling ConAgra Foods Inc.’s Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter from their shelves.

“We pulled every one — 16 containers — off the shelf as soon as we heard about it,” said Robert Martin, assistant manager at Three Bears in Kenai.

Martin added the media has done a good job getting the word out, as he had already fielded a few calls Thursday from people who had purchased potentially punky peanut butter.

He said most had not opened it yet, and the one person who had said they suffered no ill effects from eating it.

“She said she wasn’t taking any chances, though, and threw it out,” he said.

Martin added that anyone who has purchased the product from Three Bears can bring it back with a receipt to get a full refund.

Chieu Lash, a Safeway public affairs spokesperson in Washington, said the Kenai and Soldotna stores would not be affected by the recall.

“We don’t carry that brand,” she said.

Ron Delaney, director at Fred Meyer in Soldotna, also said his store does not carry the product.
