Stephen A. Schachle
Anchor Point resident Stephen A. Schachle died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at Heritage Place in Soldotna with his wife, Lois, and brother, Mike, by his side. He was 80.
Funeral services will be held in Gettysburg, Pa., where he will be buried in the Great Conawago Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Hunterstown, Pa.
Mr. Schachle was born Jan. 22, 1925, in Austin, Texas. He entered into the U.S. Army and served in the Medical Detachment, 186th Quartermaster Battalion, until he was honorably discharged.
Mr. Schachle first moved to Alaska in 1977 and lived in Anchorage and Fairbanks before he moved to Anchor Point. He retired in 1980.
Mr. Schachle was a member of the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce, Anchor Point Senior Citizens Center and a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 10221. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and repairing clocks.
Mr. Schachle was preceded in death by his parents, George and Genevieve (Cox) Schachle; brothers, Dale, Lawrence and George Schachle Jr.; sisters, Lucille Redding and Geneva Roth.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Schachle of Alaska; sons, Bruce W. Schachle of Gardners, Pa., Dale E. Schachle of Hanover, Pa., and Leo C. Schachle of Gettysburg; stepson, Jerry Bowers of Fairbanks; stepdaughter, Penny Gibbs of California; brothers, Mike Schachle of Wasilla, Leo V. Schachle of Savannah, Tenn., and Patrick Schachle of Fairbanks; sisters, Marie Miller of Orange County, Calif., and Clara Riley of Pensacola, Fla.; and 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the donor's favorite charity.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
