Soldotna Elementary's Title I program will celebrate Dr. Seuss' 100th birthday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. March 2 with "Suessentenial" crafts, readings, snacks and games in the gym.

Mrs. Meyer's sixth-grade students have completed a science unit on vertebrates, which is on display in the front foyer. Students had to pick an animal and research specific questions regarding it. They then had to construct a 3D model of their animal with correct physical features.

Fun Buck winners for this week were Hannah Mahaffy, Brodi Perkins, Bryce Wiley, Olivia Hutchings, Caleb Wilson, O.T. Groat, Kaitlin Kingsley, Jazshe Nushart, Troy Hope, Brittany Lloyd, Hailey Scott, Coty Anderson and Jazmin Heatherton.

Students in grades three through six are taking standardized tests this week. Parents can help their students do their best by seeing that they get enough sleep, have nutritious breakfasts and get encouragement from home.

If you want to meet Mooshka from Venus, Bob from Mars, Solar Man from the Sun or Timmy from Earth, stop down in the library foyer and see the imaginary individuals made by Ms. Bobek's students in conjunction with their study of the solar system.

After winning second place in the third- and fourth-grade Battle of the Books, Soldotna Elementary placed first in the fifth- and sixth-grade battle. Facilitated by parent Liz Cristiano, students Angela Ramponi, Christina Tachick, Tifffany Maglasang-Kline and Brionna Fabunan won the district championship and will go on to the state competition.
