Chambers set luncheon schedules

Soldotna chamber hosts awards reception

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce is having its 51st annual Awards Reception At the Soldotna Sports Center on Friday at 6 p.m. Tickets are $40 and seats are limited. Call 262-9814 to reserve seats.

Bed and Breakfast Association to meet

The regular meeting of the Kenai Peninsula Bed and Breakfast Association is Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Kenai Cultural and Visitors Center. Guest speaker will be Amy Dietrich of "Winter Greens" telling about container Gardening. Credit Union 1 to host open house, playground fundraiser

Credit Union 1 in Soldotna, located at 44758 Sterling Highway, will hold a Member Appreciation Day and Open House on March 5. A silent auction to benefit the Soldotna Community Playground will also be held during this open house. All proceeds from the auction will also be matched by Credit Union 1 with all proceeds going toward the playground. For more information, or to make a donation toward the auction, contact 339-8422.

Stress coping workshop slated

Lauralee and Associates will host a workshop on "Basic Women's Health: Grace Under Pressure" by relaxation specialist Jody Forcum, LMT from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Participants will learn and integrate techniques to help manage stress pressure without relying on pharmaceuticals, and know when to say "enough is enough" if anxiety starts affecting health. The two-hour session costs $20. The workshop will be held in Suite 203, upstairs in the Seaman Building, at 601 Frontage Road in Kenai.

HEA accepting nominations for board of directors

Homer Electric Association accepting nominations from members interested in running for a seat on the cooperative's Board of Directors.

The cooperative's Board is made up of nine directors, three from each of the three districts that make up the service area.

This year, the District 1 (Kenai-Nikiski area) seat held by Kenai resident Tony Garcia will be on the ballot. In District 2 (Soldotna -Sterling area) the seat currently held by Sterling resident Debbie Debnam will be up for election and in District 3 (Ninilchik-Homer- Seldovia area) the seat formerly held Brian Hirsch of Homer will be contested. Mr. Hirsch resigned from the Board in June of 2009.

HEA directors are elected by district, with members voting only for the seat representing their respective district.

Members interested in being on the ballot must fill out a nomination packet that requires the candidate to gather at least 15 signatures from valid Homer Electric members that live in the district the candidate would represent. The nomination forms are available at HEA offices in Kenai and Homer and on-line at

The deadline to submit the nomination packet is 5 p.m. on March 5. Completed nomination packets can be dropped off at either the Kenai or Homer HEA office.

Ballots will be mailed out to HEA members on April 2 and the results will be tabulated at the Annual Meeting on May 5 at Kenai Central High School.

SBA 8(A) Workshop -- Sam Dickey, Deputy District Director for the U.S. SBA Anchorage office, will host a workshop to provide information on the SBA 8(a) program.
