CIA starts tourney with 2 victories

The Cook Inlet Academy boys basketball team opened up play in the Seldovia Tournament with a 59-52 overtime victory over Bristol Bay on Thursday.

The Eagles outscored the Angels 9-3 in the extra period for the victory. David Reischach, who paced CIA with 24 points, had five points in the extra frame. Also for CIA, Cody Munn had 18 points and Matthew Moffis added 11.

For Bristol Bay, Jaxon Wassillie had 16 points, while Luke Wilson had 14 and Zach Aspelund had 11.

CIA girls 42, Bristol Bay 23

The Eagles opened up a 14-3 lead after one period to cruise to victory.

Tiffany Smith had 16 points to lead CIA, while Megan Bauder added 10.

Nikolaevsk boys 56, Nanwalek 53

The Warriors fell behind by six points through the first quarter, but came back to defeat the Eagles 56-53 on the opening day of the Seldovia Tournament on Thursday.

Eric Mametieff scored a team-high 16 points for Nikolaevsk, while teammate Mark Fefelov added 11. The Warriors outscored the Eagles 34-21 in the second and third quarters combined to build a seven-point lead entering the fourth.

Seldovia girls 47, Nikolaevsk 20

Sarah Geagel and Sarah O'Leary combined for 30 points as the Otters earned a 47-20 win on their home floor. Naniella Dorvall posted a team-best seven points for the Warriors.
