JUNEAU (AP) -- Gov. Frank Murkowski has appointed two prominent Republicans, Sarah Palin and Randy Ruedrich, to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.
Ruedrich, who is chair of the state Republican Party, was appointed to the engineer's seat on the commission. He has a doctorate in chemical engineering and has worked in the oil and gas industry for more than 30 years, according to a governor's news release.
Palin, the former mayor of Wasilla, was appointed to a public seat on the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.
Palin lost a bid last fall to be the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor. She has a degree in journalism and has worked in journalism and commercial fishing.
The commission regulates the underground operation of the oil and gas industry. Its responsibilities include ensuring maximum recovery of the resources.
Palin and Ruedrich were among 26 board and commission appointments Murkowski announced Tuesday.
Details on the other appointments is available on the state Web page at www.state.ak.us.
